Add Lockwood & Co. to the List of Canceled Netflix Shows

Netflix has decided not to renew Lockwood & Co., a show directed by Joe Cornish based on the popular YA series by Jonathan Stroud, for a second season.

The series premiered in January and starred Ruby Stokes, Ali Hadji-Heshmati, and Cameron Chapman as three teenage supernatural investigators.

Although the show received good reviews and was quite popular, it was not enough to warrant a sophomore season, despite the reported 79.91 million hours of viewership and a nearly full month on Netflix’s global Top 10 list. Nonetheless, Netflix was said to be “very pleased” with the show’s outcome.

In a statement, the production company, Complete Fiction, which was founded by Cornish, Edgar Wright, and Rachael Prior, expressed their disappointment over the cancellation and thanked author Jonathan Stroud for allowing them to adapt his books.

They also thanked the audience, who they referred to as Lock Nation, for their love and support of the show. While the TV show may have come to an end, the books and friendships made through the show will continue.

Stroud also took to Instagram to express his gratitude for the show and its global success. He humorously referred to the show’s performance as “not bad for a little start-up agency” and thanked the audience for their dedication and love.

Netflix has been cancelling several shows recently, including National Treasure: Edge of History, The Winchesters, and Fantasy Island, which may be due to low viewership numbers or the Writers Strike. Some creatives have been trying to move their shows elsewhere, while others must move on once the decision is made.
