Honda May Debut New Sports Car For 75th Anniversary This Year

Honda is preparing for its 75th anniversary and there may be more than just cake and ice cream on the menu. Honda Motor Europe Senior Vice President Tom Gardner gave a hint, saying “watch this space” as the company is turning 75 and “we had the S2000 at 50.” He added a disclaimer, saying “who knows,” but this was enough to spark rumors.

However, Honda has had a less than impressive track record with sports cars outside of the Civic.
The second-generation NSX was killed, revived, and then met with a shrug of indifference after an initial wave of enthusiasm. NSX production ended in November, but Acura has previously stated that they will continue to pursue sports cars in the electrified era.

Acura Vice President Jon Ikeda also emphasized the company’s commitment to performance, saying that they will continue to investigate what the next generation of sports cars should be in an electrified era.

Despite this, Gardner hinted at the possibility of an S2000 revival. Although rumors of an S2000 comeback have been quiet in recent years, a few years ago there were vague suggestions that it could return in 2024 with similar proportions to the original and a modified version of the Civic Type R’s powertrain. Recently, the company teased two electric sports cars, and one of them could be a successor to the S2000.

So what does Honda have in store for its 75th anniversary? Will it be a new NSX, a new S2000, a completely different sports car, or nothing at all? Only time will tell, and rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
