First Trucks Begin Loading Fuel at Dangote Refinery, Signaling Major Milestone for Nigeria
The Dangote Refinery has officially started loading Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, onto trucks at its facility, marking a significant moment for the Nigerian oil industry. In a video shared on Sunday via its official X account, the Dangote Group confirmed the event, stating, “HAPPENING NOW: First set of trucks set for loading of PMS at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.”
This development follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)’s announcement on Saturday that over 300 trucks had arrived at the refinery to load petrol, marking the first time in years that Nigeria will distribute locally produced petrol.
The move comes after agreements were finalized between the NNPCL, the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, ensuring that petrol lifting from the Dangote Refinery could commence.
Petroleum marketers have welcomed the news, expressing optimism that the start of petrol distribution from the refinery will alleviate fuel scarcity and eventually bring down fuel prices across the country. This milestone is seen as a major step towards strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and reducing its reliance on imported fuel.
