Alan Ritchson Critiques James Bond Franchise as “Misogynistic and Predictable”

Actor Alan Ritchson recently shared his perspective on the James Bond franchise, describing it as “misogynistic and predictable” while expressing his preference for portraying Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series “Reacher.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 41-year-old actor compared the character of Reacher to that of James Bond, noting his enjoyment of playing the former due to its fresh and exhilarating nature.

Ritchson stated, “I feel like ‘Reacher’ is the American James Bond. And I’ve never had more fun playing a character. I love those larger-than-life, over-the-top action thrillers and spy movies.”

While acknowledging his appreciation for the Bond series, Ritchson criticized its portrayal of the suave spy, suggesting that the character has become overly aware of his qualities, leading to a sense of predictability and misogyny in the narrative.

He elaborated, “I feel like Bond, to me personally — people are going to hate me for saying this — I love Bond, but I feel like it’s all a little misogynistic and predictable at this point.”

Ritchson emphasized his preference for characters who exhibit vulnerability and humanity, expressing a desire for more nuanced portrayals in cinema that reflect the uncertainties of real life.

He remarked, “What we want is, when there’s life and death stakes, characters who are not so sure that they’re going to make it, but they just maybe by the skin of their teeth figure it out. And that feels more human to me.”

Ritchson’s comments offer insight into the evolving expectations of audiences and actors regarding character portrayals in action and spy thrillers, highlighting a desire for authenticity and depth in storytelling.
