Amazon Music Premieres “Ayra Starr: Dare to Dream” Documentary

Amazon Music has released a new documentary titled “Ayra Starr: Dare to Dream,” offering an in-depth look at the meteoric rise of the Afrobeats star. The 23-minute film, directed and produced by HOMECOMING, explores the life of Ayra Starr, born Oyinkansola, as she transitions from a young girl in Cotonou to an international music sensation.

The documentary captures Ayra Starr’s journey from her hometown, where she was warmly received by fans, to Lagos, where her career took off under Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records. It also follows her sold-out performances in London and her appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, where she earned her first nomination for Best African Music Performance with her hit single “Rush.”

Throughout the film, Ayra Starr shares personal insights, including her self-identification as a “celestial being,” a term she says came to her instinctively. “I’ve always wanted to do this to inspire African girls all over [the world], Black girls, girls in general to keep going and do what they believe they were born to do. I’m just a regular African girl, you understand. And I’ve come this far, and I want them to feel like, ‘Oh, I can relate to that,’” she told Billboard after the premiere.

The documentary, which premiered on August 1st after nearly a year of production, not only delves into her professional achievements but also portrays the personal drive that fuels her success. Additionally, Ayra Starr has been honored as Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Artist, making her the first Afrobeats artist to receive this recognition. The title includes playlist features, social media campaigns, and various promotional efforts aimed at supporting emerging talent.
