Amazon Corporate Workers Stage Walkout, citing ‘Lack of Trust’ in Leadership

Amazon corporate workers staged a visible walkout to express their lack of trust in the company’s leadership.

Organizers claimed that over 1,000 employees participated, while Amazon disputed the number, estimating around 300 participants.

The walkout aimed to address employee frustrations, including Amazon’s insistence on employees working in the office at least three days a week.

The protest was organized by Amazon Employees for Climate Justice and a remote work advocacy group, with demands focused on prioritizing climate impact and providing greater flexibility in work arrangements.

The walkout reflects growing discontent among employees as Amazon cuts jobs while pushing for more in-office work. Amazon acknowledged the adjustment period but expressed satisfaction with the initial month of increased office presence.

The walkout organizers, previously known for protesting the company’s climate inaction, emphasized the need for real climate plans and flexible work options.

Amazon’s Climate Pledge, aiming for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, was criticized by the group as lacking substance. Amazon reiterated its commitment to reaching its climate goals but acknowledged the complexity of the task given its scale and energy consumption.
