Apple Rolls Out AI Tools on Latest iPhones, with Limited Availability
Apple has launched its new suite of artificial intelligence tools, known as Apple Intelligence, for iPhones. The AI features, announced earlier in June, began rolling out to users on Monday but are exclusive to the latest devices, including all iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. This limited release highlights Apple’s focus on leveraging its latest chip technology for enhanced AI capabilities.
The newly available features include a refreshed Siri interface, message-writing assistance, and advanced notification summaries. Apple Intelligence is also accessible on the latest Mac computers and iPads equipped with Apple’s current-generation chips, broadening the reach of these AI-powered tools across the Apple ecosystem.
Despite the release, Apple’s AI tools trail similar features introduced by rivals Google and Samsung, whose devices already include real-time language translation, note organization, and other AI capabilities. Samsung, for instance, expanded its Galaxy AI to older models such as the S22 series and plans to reach over 100 million devices by the end of 2024.
In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook called the release “a new era” for Apple products, underscoring the company’s approach to AI innovation. In line with its commitment to security, Apple has also announced a bounty of up to $1 million for ethical hackers who can uncover vulnerabilities in its AI software.
This initial rollout with the iOS 18.1 update represents Apple’s first public step into broader AI applications. Additional AI features, including text-to-image generation and emoji creation, are anticipated later in the year, signaling a steady evolution in Apple’s AI offerings.
