Ayra Starr Becomes First African Female Artist to Reach 5 Million Spotify Followers

Nigerian pop sensation Ayra Starr has made history by becoming the first African female artist to surpass 5 million followers on global streaming platform Spotify.

The milestone further cements her position as one of Africa’s fastest-rising stars on the international stage. Known for her breakout hit “Rush”, Ayra Starr continues to gain momentum with a growing global fanbase and a consistent stream of chart-topping releases.

While she now holds the record for the most Spotify followers among African women, she currently sits behind fellow Nigerian artist Tems in terms of total streams. Ayra Starr has amassed 2.7 billion streams across all credits, while Tems leads with 3.8 billion.

Among Ayra Starr’s most successful tracks on the platform is “Santa”, which has racked up over 707 million streams, making it her most-streamed song to date. Her most-streamed lead single remains “Rush”, with over 474 million plays and counting.

The 21-year-old singer, signed to Mavin Records, has enjoyed a meteoric rise since her debut in 2021 and continues to expand her influence across Africa, Europe, and North America. Her recent achievements on Spotify signal a new era for African women in music, as global audiences increasingly tune in to the continent’s diverse and dynamic sounds.
