Ayra Starr Set to Make Her Nollywood Acting Debut in Christmas Film
Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr is expanding her talents into the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood. The 22-year-old Grammy-nominated star is set to make her acting debut in the upcoming Prime Video original film, Christmas In Lagos.
The romantic comedy features a talented ensemble cast, including Teniola A. Aladese, Shalom C. Obiago, Rayxia Ojo, Shaffy Bello, and fellow musician Adekunle Gold. The film follows the story of Fiyin (played by Aladese), who, after a recent heartbreak, becomes convinced that her best friend, Elo (Obiago), is her true love.
Directed by Jadesola Osiberu and filmed in Lagos, the movie showcases a mix of established and emerging talent. Osiberu, speaking to Variety, highlighted Ayra Starr’s role in the project: “For me, Ayra Starr represents what it means to be young, female, daring, brave, and fearless – just being yourself. She was on the list from day one.”
The film also features cameo appearances by musicians Wurld and Liya, with a soundtrack that includes songs from legendary artists like Sunny Ade and Afrobeats icons Flavour and D’banj.
Ayra Starr’s move into acting marks another milestone in her rapidly growing career, as she joins the list of pop stars making waves in Nollywood.
