Barking at Davido Won’t Fix Nigeria – Ruggedman

Veteran rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has spoken out in defence of Afrobeats star Davido, who recently faced backlash for remarks about Nigeria’s struggling economy.

Davido, during a podcast interview, advised Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, describing the country’s economy as being in a “shamble.” His comments triggered criticism from some quarters, accusing him of painting the nation in a negative light.

Reacting to the controversy, Ruggedman backed Davido’s statements, urging critics to focus their energy on addressing the root causes of Nigeria’s challenges rather than attacking the singer.

In a post on his X account, Ruggedman said, “Davido has said what he said. Moving forward, the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such things again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much.”

He further emphasised that Davido’s remarks reflect the frustrations of many Nigerians and serve as a call for urgent action to improve the country’s economic conditions.

The rapper’s comments have sparked discussions on social media, with many echoing his call for the government to address the hardships faced by citizens instead of focusing on reactions to public criticism.
