Benjamin Mendy Takes Legal Action Against Manchester City Over Unpaid Wages

Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has initiated legal proceedings against his ex-employers, filing a complaint for unpaid salaries amounting to multi-millions of pounds. The French international, who faced charges of rape and sexual assault in 2021 but was subsequently found not guilty earlier this year, lodged the claim with the employment tribunal.

Mendy’s legal action centers around an alleged unauthorized deduction in wages, with Manchester City reportedly refusing to pay him from September 2021 until the conclusion of his contract in June 2023. The 29-year-old is seeking the remuneration owed to him during this period.

Represented by Nick De Marco KC, instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid), Mendy’s claim asserts that Manchester City failed to fulfill their financial obligations to him after the legal charges were levied, despite his subsequent acquittal. The case is set to be presented before an Employment Tribunal.

Mendy, who joined Manchester City from Monaco for a then-record £52 million fee in 2017, played a pivotal role in the club’s success, securing three titles during his tenure. Additionally, he was a part of France’s victorious World Cup squad in 2018.
