Ariana Grande, Brandy and Monica

Brandy and Monica Reunite to Support Ariana Grande’s Revival of ‘The Boy Is Mine’

In a surprising reunion, R&B legends Brandy and Monica have come together to support Ariana Grande’s fresh rendition of their iconic duet, “The Boy Is Mine.”

On Friday, June 7, Grande released the music video for “the boy is mine” from her latest album, Eternal Sunshine. This track reimagines the 1998 hit that originally brought Brandy and Monica into the spotlight and earned them a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.

The new music video opens with Brandy and Monica portraying news anchors introducing a speech by dishevelled mayor Max Starling, a character played by Penn Badgley.

Earlier this year, Monica addressed Ray J, Brandy’s brother, asking him to stop discussing a potential tour featuring her and Brandy. During an interview on The Breakfast Club, Ray J expanded on the idea of a concert series headlined by the two R&B stars, which he had previously hinted at in the comments of Monica’s Instagram Live.

Monica later took to social media to clarify the situation, stating, “I’ve been repeatedly contacted about interviews etc. where my name and tour possibilities are being discussed. I’ve not received any contracts or calls about said tour. @rayj I’m kindly asking you to stop speaking on me in public! A private conversation would both be necessary and respectful! Brandy is a LEGEND! She’s one with an extensive back catalogue that I deeply respect & a voice sent from heaven.”

She added, “The conversation being had without she and I is beginning to muddy the waters severely! She and I are both consummate professionals that share a massive recording as well as an entire era! Please allow this to remain positive and beautiful! Neither should open, we should give someone else that opportunity and co-headline a massive shared stage if this is to ever happen. Any further convo should be private!”

Monica concluded with, “I get it, I will forever be the ‘bad guy’ in this situation and no one will EVER pay attention or read/ listen to understand!!! I have no issues with anyone but it’s not real unless there’s a deal!!! There’s no 100 mill. No contract. Media outlets calling for comments about an imaginary tour & this unfairly spikes the excitement of our supporters and the insinuation that the hold up of said (imaginary) deal taking place is, ME! The Breakfast Club interview is the first I’ve acknowledged of the antics! We both deserve the respect of real business being done.”

The revival of “The Boy Is Mine” by Ariana Grande not only brings a fresh twist to a classic hit but also highlights the enduring legacy and influence of Brandy and Monica in the music industry.
