Brooklyn Rapper BreezyLYN Pays Tribute to Jay-Z with New EP ‘Hood Mona Lisa’
Brooklyn’s rising star MC, BreezyLYN, has honoured fellow BK legend JAY-Z on her latest EP, “Hood Mona Lisa.”
The EP opens with a homage to Jay-Z and their shared roots in Marcy Houses, as narrated by Pain In Da Ass, a prominent voice on Hova’s iconic album “Reasonable Doubt.”
Pain’s distinctive voice sets the tone for Breezy’s project, reminiscing about their encounter and likening Breezy to a modern-day masterpiece. He draws parallels to the enigmatic allure of the Mona Lisa, suggesting that Breezy’s depth and artistry are equally captivating.
The spoken-word introduction builds anticipation, hinting at the layers waiting to be unveiled as the EP unfolds. Breezy’s dedication to Jay-Z adds to the recent tributes paid to the rap icon from Marcy Projects.
Last year, the Brooklyn Public Library featured lyrics from Jay-Z’s illustrious catalogue as part of “The Book of HOV” exhibit. The exhibit, which ran throughout the summer of 2023, showcased lyrics from iconic tracks, transforming the library into a tribute to Jay-Z’s legacy.
Fans and musicians alike were captivated by the exhibit, with Questlove sharing his awe on Instagram during a visit. The exhibit’s recreation of Baseline Studios, where Jay-Z recorded some of his most iconic tracks, left Questlove mind-blown, underscoring the profound impact of Jay-Z’s influence on Brooklyn’s cultural landscape.
BreezyLYN’s “Hood Mona Lisa” EP serves as both a nod to Jay-Z’s legacy and a testament to Brooklyn’s enduring influence on the world of hip-hop.
