Burna Boy Becomes First African Artiste to Receive Plaque for 2 Billion Streams in UK
Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ogulu, has become the first African artist to surpass two billion streams in the United Kingdom. The milestone was celebrated with the presentation of a Brit plaque during his sold-out performance at Koko Camden in London on Monday night.
This achievement comes just weeks after Burna Boy received a Brit plaque for one billion streams at his packed London Stadium show last month.
Upon receiving the Brit 2 billion streams plaque, Burna Boy expressed his gratitude and the effort it took to reach this milestone. “Thank you very much. I appreciate you. Ehen, now that’s it. You’ve to fight for your right,” he said. When one of the presenters suggested that he already had the recognition, Burna Boy reiterated, “No. You know, we have to fight for our rights.”
The acknowledgment underscores Burna Boy’s impact and dedication, cementing his status as a global music icon.
