‘Afrobeats Artistes Now on Same Level as Drake’ – Davido
Nigerian singer Davido, born David Adeleke, has highlighted the international rise of the Afrobeats genre, asserting that Afrobeats artists now achieve the same level of success as global pop and hip-hop icons like Drake.
During a panel discussion hosted by Hiptv with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and Leaders in Nigeria’s Creative Industries, Davido emphasized the growing influence and success of Afrobeats musicians. He pointed out that Afrobeats artists are selling tickets comparable to those of major stars such as Drake.
“Afrobeats artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now, one song as an Afrobeats artist can change your generation,” Davido remarked, highlighting the significant financial impact of a successful Afrobeats single.
Davido also encouraged emerging artists to prioritize collaborations within the Afrobeats community over seeking international features. “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all,” he noted, stressing the value of mutual support and dedication among local artists.
This statement underscores the rapid ascent of Afrobeats on the global music stage and the potential for substantial economic benefits for artists in the genre.
