Burna Boy and Davido

Burna Boy Finally Reacts to Davido Calling Him a ‘New Cat’

Nigerian music sensation, Burna Boy, renowned for his Grammy-award-winning talent and dynamic performances, has addressed the recent controversy surrounding his classification as a “new cat” in the music industry. The Afro-fusion superstar revealed that he sees being regarded as a newcomer as an advantage rather than a setback.

Despite making his mark in the Nigerian music scene with his debut studio album “L.I.F.E.” released in 2013, Burna Boy had been somewhat of an underdog for a significant period. However, his exceptional artistry and global appeal eventually propelled him to the forefront of the music world, securing his place among the industry’s heavyweights.

The debate surrounding Burna Boy’s status as a “new cat” emerged following comments made by his fellow award-winning singer and colleague, Davido. During an interview with Brut Afrique, Davido claimed to be one of the pioneers of the Afrobeats movement, alongside Wizkid, and went on to acknowledge the contributions of “new cats” like Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, and others in taking the genre to new heights.

While the debate stirred social media discussions, Burna Boy himself remained silent on the matter. However, during an interview with Ebro Darden, where he previewed his historic live performance at the London Stadium, the Nigerian superstar finally addressed the “new cat” conversation.

Burna Boy expressed that being perceived as a newcomer in the industry gives him more time to function and allows him to maintain longevity as an artist. Embracing the narrative of being a fresh face in the music scene, he sees it as an opportunity rather than a challenge.

The talented artist’s recent accomplishments further solidify his status as one of Nigeria’s musical gems. Notably, Burna Boy became the first African artist to headline a stadium concert in the UK when he sold out the 60,000-capacity London Stadium. Following this triumph, he also made history by selling out the 41,000-capacity Citi Field stadium in New York, further cementing his global appeal and musical prowess.

Burna Boy’s historic London performance was even more significant as it was broadcast to Apple Music users in over 165 countries, expanding his reach and spreading the influence of Afrobeats worldwide.

As Burna Boy continues to thrive and captivate audiences worldwide, he remains unfazed by the “new cat” controversy, using it as a platform to shine and showcase his exceptional talent, solidifying his place as one of Africa’s brightest music stars.
