Burna Boy Responds to Critics Over Reported ₦9 Billion Bugatti Purchase
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has responded to criticism surrounding his reported purchase of a custom one-of-one Venuum Widebody Bugatti Chiron, said to be worth approximately ₦9 billion.
The singer has faced widespread reactions since news of the luxury vehicle emerged, with some critics questioning the decision to spend such a large sum on an exotic car instead of investing in other ventures or supporting charitable causes.
Others also argued that importing a high-performance sports car into Nigeria was impractical, citing the country’s road infrastructure.
Burna Boy addressed the criticism during his performance at the Afronation festival in Portugal on Friday, using a freestyle to respond to those questioning his purchase.
“I buy Bugatti, dem ask which road I go drive am? No be today we dey do road like Julius Berger,” he rapped.
The performance marked his first public response since the luxury car became a topic of debate on social media.
The latest controversy comes more than a year after Burna Boy was linked to another widely discussed luxury car story involving socialite Sophia Egbueje. She had alleged that the singer promised to buy her a Lamborghini in exchange for intimacy but failed to fulfil the promise.
Burna Boy neither confirmed nor denied the allegation at the time. Instead, he appeared to reference the incident in his song No Do, where he mocked someone for “shouting” over a Lamborghini.
Sophia Egbueje later announced that she had purchased the Lamborghini herself, bringing the public dispute to a close after it generated widespread attention online.
