Burna Boy and his mum

Burna Boy’s Mother Defends Singer Amid Arrogance Backlash

The mother of Nigerian music star Burna Boy, Bose Ogulu, has spoken out in defence of her son following criticism over his perceived attitude.

The backlash comes after a reported altercation involving Burna Boy and DJ Tunez, a disc jockey associated with Wizkid, at a Lagos nightclub. The incident reportedly escalated into a social media dispute between the two music stars, drawing widespread reactions online.

Many critics accused Burna Boy of being confrontational and labelled him arrogant, a characterisation that has sparked debate among fans and commentators.

Responding during an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, Ogulu dismissed the criticism, saying she has no issue with such labels.

She argued that confidence and self-awareness are often misinterpreted, adding that embracing one’s worth should not be seen as a negative trait. According to her, if being confident in one’s abilities is perceived as arrogance, then it is justified.

Ogulu also reflected on broader societal expectations, noting that individuals—particularly Africans and women—are often conditioned to downplay their achievements. She maintained that recognising and asserting one’s value should not require apology.

Her comments have further fueled conversations around confidence, perception, and public expectations of celebrities within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
