Busta Rhymes and Lil Kim

Busta Rhymes Praises Lil Kim, Encourages Her Comeback: ‘We Miss You’

Hip-hop icon Busta Rhymes took a moment during his EP release party to honor fellow rap legend Lil Kim, urging her to make a comeback.

At the event on Friday (March 7) at Brooklyn Chop House in Manhattan, Busta celebrated the launch of his new EP, Dragon Season… Equinox, as well as his son Trillian’s collaboration with NLE Choppa. However, he also used the occasion to publicly express his admiration for Lil Kim and call for her return to the music scene.

“I made a decision the other night. I called Lil Kim and told her, ‘I’m tired of watching you sit down and be quiet,’” Busta declared. He went on to highlight how artists like Missy Elliott and Mary J. Blige have recently received well-deserved recognition, adding that Kim also played a significant role in shaping hip-hop.

Addressing her directly, Busta continued, “Kim, we got to light the fuse. It’s time to get active again. We miss you, and we love you.” He then rallied the crowd, urging them to show their support for Lil Kim’s return.

Meanwhile, Busta has remained active in music, recently collaborating with Karriem Riggins and Westside Gunn on Long Live J Dilla, a tribute song to the late producer J Dilla. Released on February 7—now recognized as “J Dilla Day” in Detroit—the track celebrates Dilla’s lasting influence on hip-hop.

Riggins, who produced the track, revealed that Westside Gunn’s verse organically turned it into a tribute, leading to Busta’s involvement. “I was going to put the song out as it was, but after playing it for Busta, he immediately wanted to jump on it,” Riggins shared.

With both his own music and his advocacy for hip-hop’s pioneers, Busta Rhymes continues to make an impact in the industry.
