Canada Struck by Massive Mobile and Internet Outage
These are not the best of times in Canada as the country’s largest mobile and internet provider has suffered a major outage, with bank ATMs and emergency service hotlines affected.
Government operations have also been hit by the Rogers Communications issue as the company says it is working to restore internet service.
In a statement issued earlier today, the company said, “We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected.”
The caus of he outage is yet to be identified and this marks the second outage in 15 months.
The outage began at around 04:30 ET (08:30 GMT). Since then, nternet traffic had dropped to around 75% of its normal level by Friday morning, according to NetBlocks, an internet watchdog organisation.
Rogers is the mobile carrier of nearly 11 million Canadians, with a stake in everything from hockey to cable television.
