Childish Gambino Debuts Innovative Tour Tech, Anticipates Future Adoption by Fellow Artists
Donald Glover, known to many as Childish Gambino, is setting a new standard for live performances with his New World Tour, unveiling a cutting-edge piece of technology that he expects will soon become a staple in the industry.
The artist recently took to Instagram to showcase what he calls the “LIGHT-BINDER”—a futuristic stage element that hovers above the audience during his shows. Gambino expressed both pride and fascination with this innovation, explaining that it was inspired by the concerts he imagined while watching anime as a child.
In his post, Gambino stated, “People steal a lot of my stuff after I tour (which is not only good, but encouraged), but this I really wanted to introduce because I’m simultaneously proud and entranced by it every show. As the technology gets better, I’m sure this will be a live show staple. And for anyone that wants the tech, hit me and I’ll share it. Thanks, and see u on tour.”
This isn’t the first time Gambino has hyped his live performances. In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, he confidently claimed, “If this live show isn’t the best live show you’ve ever seen by the first song, you can have your money back.” He emphasized that his new album Bando Stone & The New World was designed for arena rock, and that the live experience is where the true value lies.
Glover’s ambitious tour, announced in May following the release of his album Atavista, spans 58 dates across North America, Europe, and Oceania. The tour, which began on August 11 in Oklahoma City, features support from artists Willow Smith and Amaarae and is scheduled to run through February 2025.
As Gambino continues to push the boundaries of live performance, it seems he’s not only elevating his own shows but also setting the stage for future artists to follow in his innovative footsteps.
