Flavour Recounts Career-Changing Moment When He Was Asked to Leave the Stage for P-Square
Nigerian high-life singer Chinedu Okoli, better known as Flavour N’abania, recently shared a pivotal moment from his early career when he was asked to step aside during a performance to make way for the famous duo, P-Square.
Speaking on the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Flavour reflected on his journey from his beginnings as a choir conductor and drummer in the church to becoming one of Nigeria’s top music stars. He recounted how an encounter with P-Square, then rising stars, marked a significant turning point for him.
Flavour described the event, saying, “I remember one day with P-Square when they had just released ‘Temptation.’ They were promoting a show, and the promoters brought them to a spot at City Centre in Enugu, where I was performing regularly.”
At that time, Flavour had already built a strong following in Enugu, with fans flocking to see him every weekend. However, everything changed when P-Square arrived at the venue. “The manager just said, ‘Hello, off that thing,’” Flavour recalled. “I switched off, passed the microphone, and went to sit. Then when Paul of P-Square picked up the microphone and just said, ‘This na temptation,’ everywhere scattered.”
This experience, which could have been disheartening, instead became a motivational moment for Flavour. It inspired him to work even harder and solidified his determination to succeed in the music industry.
Flavour’s story highlights the challenges and unexpected turns that often come with pursuing a career in music, and how such moments can serve as a catalyst for growth and success.
