Coca-Cola Launches Lagos Recycling Hub to Process 13,000 Metric Tons of Plastic Annually
Coca-Cola has inaugurated a new Packaging Collection Hub in Lagos, Nigeria, with the capacity to process up to 13,000 metric tons of plastic bottles each year.
The initiative is part of the company’s commitment to enhancing plastic recycling efforts in Nigeria, promoting cleaner communities, and generating employment opportunities. The facility will serve as a center for collecting and sorting PET plastics, facilitating their conversion into recyclable materials through partnerships with third-party processors.
Speaking at the commissioning, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Special Adviser on Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi, described the hub as a major step forward in addressing plastic pollution in the state.
“This facility will play a vital role in collecting, sorting, and recycling PET plastics, significantly reducing environmental waste,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Zoran Bogdanovic, Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola HBC, known locally as the Nigerian Bottling Company, emphasized the company’s dedication to tackling plastic waste in Nigeria.
“This hub marks a significant milestone in our mission to collect and recycle our packaging, contributing to a sustainable future,” Bogdanovic said, adding that the initiative would also create job opportunities for local communities.
