Daredevil Actress Breaks Silence On MCU Recast

Daredevil’s original Vanessa Fisk actress speaks out on her character being recast for Daredevil: Born Again. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is continuing Matt Murdock’s story after his Netflix show was canceled. Charlie Cox returned to the franchise in 2021 through Spider-Man: No Way Home in a pivotal cameo. He then went on to appear in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. But his new chapter has just begun as Cox is currently filming Daredevil: Born Again.

While several Daredevil characters are returning for Daredevil: Born Again, one will have a new star. Taking over for Ayelet Zurer as the new Vanessa Fisk is Sandrine Holt. Zurer (via The Direct) recently broke her silence on Instagram while sharing an article about the recasting. The actress kept it brief by stating that she was “sad to not take part.” However, Zurer went on to praise her Daredevil co-star, Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin.

Why Vanessa Was Recast For Daredevil: Born Again

The question that is still unclear is why Daredevil: Born Again recast the role of Vanessa. While Zurer expressed sadness to not be part of it, the reason wasn’t clarified. The likeliest scenario is that Marvel Studios and Disney+ attempted to get Zurer, but scheduling conflicts prevented her. Since Daredevil. Born Again is filming for almost all of 2023, Zurer’s schedule may not have allowed it.

There is also the possibility Marvel Studios wanted a different actor for Vanessa in Daredevil: Born Again. It’s key to remember that it was Marvel TV, not Marvel Studios, that handled the Netflix properties, under Jeph Loeb’s regime. Given Vanessa’s significance in Wilson Fisk’s life, she is obviously a crucial player for Marvel Studios. If they have a specific vision for her, perhaps a new actor was required.

Time will tell what was the exact cause for Daredevil: Born Again to recast Vanessa. Perhaps the creative team will expand upon that at a later date. Hopefully, more information about Daredevil: Born Again will emerge sooner rather than later.
