‘Desperate Housewives’ Star Eva Longoria Says Show’s Themes Wouldn’t Pass Today’s Cultural Litmus Tests

According to Eva Longoria, one of the co-stars of the long-running television series “Desperate Housewives,” the show would face cancellation in today’s era due to its racy and controversial themes.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Longoria expressed her belief that the show, which aired from 2004 to 2012, contained storylines that would cause outrage in current times. Longoria portrayed the character Gabrielle Solis, an ex-model trapped in an unhappy marriage.

Longoria stated, “I don’t know if we could do the show today. I think we’d get canceled. I mean, not canceled on TV, but like canceled in culture because it was so groundbreaking. We said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”

Despite the potential for controversy, Longoria admitted that she wouldn’t mind a reboot of the show, adding, “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”

“Desperate Housewives” featured an ensemble cast that included Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, and Marcia Cross as Bree van de Kamp.
