Elon Musk Reactivates Kanye West’s Twitter Account Following X Rebrand

Kanye West’s Twitter account, now known as Ye, has been reinstated on the social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter). However, the musician will not be able to monetize his account, and ads will not appear next to his posts, as stated by the company to the Wall Street Journal on Saturday.

The account was suspended in December due to violations of the platform’s rules on inciting violence, following multiple antisemitic comments made by West. These controversial statements led to the dissolution of several business deals, including partnerships with Adidas and luxury fashion house Balenciaga.

Twitter’s approach to content enforcement, known as “Freedom of Speech, Not Reach,” focuses on restricting the reach of tweets that violate the platform’s policies. Twitter’s safety team reported that labelled tweets, such as those with violent or violative content, receive significantly less reach or impressions than non-restricted tweets.

The Violent Speech Policy on Twitter prohibits inciting and glorifying violence, wishing harm on others, and making threats. However, the platform allows exceptions for figures of speech, satire, or artistic expression when the context is not instigating actionable violence or harm.

It remains unclear whether West submitted an appeal or if another reason prompted the reactivation of his account. As of now, the musician has yet to post on the platform. CNN reached out to both Twitter and a representative for West but has not received a response.
