Erigga Declares Phyno the Greatest Nigerian Rapper of All Time
Nigerian hip-hop artist Erigga has named fellow rapper Phyno as the greatest Nigerian rapper of all time, praising his longevity and consistency in the music industry.
Speaking in a recent interview with Echoo Room, the Warri-born lyricist revealed that collaborating with Phyno had always been a long-term goal. Their recent track, Up Iweka, he said, was born out of an ongoing conversation between the two.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Phyno,” Erigga shared. “Every time I mentioned it, he’d leave the ball in my court. But I’m very intentional with collaborations – I don’t just throw people on tracks unless the energy is right.”
Erigga, known for his raw lyrical style and street narratives, praised Phyno’s ability to evolve through different eras of Nigerian hip-hop, maintaining relevance while staying true to his roots.
“Phyno has lived through different times in the rap game and is still standing strong,” Erigga said. “For me, that makes him the GOAT – the greatest Nigerian rapper.”
Up Iweka, which has been gaining traction online, marks a significant moment in both rappers’ careers and celebrates a long-anticipated artistic union fans had looked forward to for years.
