FCC Launches Investigation into Amazon for Alleged Sale of Wireless Signal Jammers

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiated an investigation into retail giant Amazon and other undisclosed retailers for their alleged involvement in marketing and selling wireless signal jammers. The probe, disclosed by the FCC on Wednesday, follows concerns over the illegal use and distribution of devices that disrupt signals emitted by legitimate electronic devices like cell phones and GPS units.

In a rare public statement regarding ongoing investigations, FCC spokesperson Will Wiquist confirmed the agency’s scrutiny of retailers, including Amazon, for potential violations of FCC regulations pertaining to the sale and promotion of unauthorized equipment. Wiquist refrained from identifying additional retailers under investigation.

The inquiry was prompted by earlier reports from NBC News, which highlighted the apparent availability of signal jammers on Amazon’s online marketplace. The FCC’s actions underscore its commitment to upholding regulations surrounding the lawful use of wireless technology and preventing the dissemination of unauthorized devices that pose a threat to communication systems.
