FG Hails Toyin Abraham As ‘Oversabi Aunty’ Crosses ₦1bn Box Office Milestone
The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham following the box office success of her latest movie, Oversabi Aunty, which has crossed the ₦1 billion mark in Nigerian cinemas.
The film, which premiered on December 19, 2025, reached the landmark revenue figure on Monday, further cementing Abraham’s status as one of the industry’s most commercially successful filmmakers.
Reacting to the achievement, the government, through the Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC), described the milestone as a positive indicator of growth within Nigeria’s creative sector. In a statement issued by the corporation’s Managing Director, Ali Nuhu, the NFC said the film’s performance highlights the increasing strength and global potential of the local film industry.
According to Nuhu, the box office record places Abraham among a select group of filmmakers whose projects have resonated strongly with audiences while also delivering solid commercial returns in a highly competitive cinema market.
He added that Oversabi Aunty demonstrates how culturally grounded storytelling, supported by quality production and effective marketing, can achieve wide reach and significant impact. The statement also noted that the film’s success reflects a growing cinema culture in Nigeria and a better understanding of audience preferences.
Abraham also acknowledged the milestone, taking to Instagram to thank her fans and moviegoers for their support, which she described as instrumental to the film’s success.
The ₦1 billion achievement adds to a growing list of Nigerian films hitting major box office benchmarks, reinforcing Nollywood’s expanding influence and contribution to the country’s creative economy.
