Ford recall

Ford Recalls More Than 230,000 Explorers for Rollaway Risk

Ford has issued a recall for specific models of the 2020-2022 Explorer due to concerns related to a potential rollaway risk when the parking brake is not engaged.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall affects a total of 238,364 vehicles. The NHTSA has pointed out that a “disconnected driveshaft” could lead to unintended vehicle movement, posing a risk of accidents.

Ford has committed to rectifying the issue without any cost to affected vehicle owners. The proposed solution includes the replacement of the rear axle bolt and subframe bushing, as well as an inspection of the rear axle cover for potential damage. Ford is scheduled to send notification letters to impacted owners on November 6. Owners can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-936-7332 for further information. The recall has been assigned the reference number 23S55.

This recall has emerged following two complaints received by the Office of Defects Investigation regarding faulty rear axle bolts, which were previously addressed in a separate recall. Notably, earlier this year in July, Ford recalled over 870,000 full-sized F-150 trucks due to concerns about the electronic parking brake engaging unexpectedly, including while the vehicle was in motion, which posed a risk of loss of control and potential accidents.
