Google to Replace Assistant with AI-Powered Gemini

Google has announced plans to replace Google Assistant with Gemini, its advanced AI-powered digital assistant, signaling a significant shift in the company’s approach to virtual assistants.

In a recent blog post, Google emphasized the impact of generative AI on user interactions with technology, positioning Gemini as a more personalized and capable alternative to Assistant.

“Over the coming months, we’re upgrading more users on mobile devices from Google Assistant to Gemini, and later this year, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on mobile app stores,” the company stated.

The transition will begin with mobile devices before expanding to tablets, cars, headphones, and smartwatches. Google is also developing a Gemini-powered experience for home devices like smart speakers, displays, and TVs, with further details expected in the coming months. Until then, Google Assistant will continue to function on these devices.

Older Android devices running Android 9 or earlier, or those with less than 2GB of RAM, will not be required to upgrade and will retain access to Google Assistant.

With this move, Google aims to redefine digital assistance, leveraging AI to offer a more intuitive and efficient experience across multiple platforms.
