Grammy Awards to Introduce Two New Categories for 2026 Ceremony
The Recording Academy has announced the addition of two new categories ahead of the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for 2026: Best Traditional Country Album and Best Album Cover.
The newly created Best Traditional Country Album category is intended to recognize projects that celebrate the core elements of classic country music – from acoustic instrumentation and storytelling lyrics to traditional production styles. This move aims to distinguish traditional country works from more modern, genre-blending country albums, offering a dedicated space to honor artists who stay rooted in the genre’s foundational sound.
In addition, the Grammys will revive the Best Album Cover category, which celebrates excellence in visual design and packaging – a nod to the artistry that complements the music itself.
These changes reflect the Recording Academy’s ongoing efforts to evolve with the shifting dynamics of the music industry while remaining committed to its heritage. By expanding the awards to spotlight both musical and visual contributions, the Academy says it hopes to ensure that tradition and innovation continue to share the stage on music’s biggest night.
