Asake and ex-manager Stephen Nana

He Was Too Big for Me – Asake’s Ex-Manager Stephen Nana Speaks After Split [VIDEO]

Stephen Nana, popularly known as Stevenator, has spoken publicly for the first time about why he stopped managing fast-rising Afrobeat star Asake, revealing that the singer’s rapid rise to fame became overwhelming.

In a viral interview making rounds on social media, Stevenator – who managed Asake from 2022 to 2024 – explained that the pace of Asake’s success left little room for him to grow into the role, especially as a first-time manager.

“Olamide called me one day and said he had an artist for me to manage. That was my first experience in management,” he said. “I had never met Asake before, never heard his music. Everything happened so fast. Asake blew up almost immediately, and there was no time to catch up.”

Stevenator expressed gratitude to YBNL boss Olamide for the opportunity, describing it as a career-changing moment, but noted that the demands of the role quickly began to take a toll on his personal life.

“At a point, I was away from home for months. I missed key moments with my sons,” he said, adding that the turning point came when one of his children refused to come to him after being apart for so long. “I realised I was losing my connection with my family.”

He noted that balancing the intense schedule that came with managing a star like Asake with his responsibilities as a husband and father became nearly impossible. “Asake became too big. I had to follow him everywhere, and I just couldn’t do both.”

Now focused on family life, Stevenator says he has no regrets about stepping down. “I love my wife, I love my kids. I had to choose them.”
