I Lost My Sight in 2020 – DJ Jimmy Jatt
Renowned Nigerian disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, popularly known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has shared his challenging health journey, including losing his sight and undergoing a kidney transplant.
In a recent appearance on Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, DJ Jimmy Jatt recounted how his health issues began in 2020, just as he was planning to explore life outside Nigeria after spending most of his years in Lagos.
“I had decided in 2019 that I wanted to spend more time outside the country to explore the world, but in 2020, I started experiencing health problems,” he explained.
The celebrated DJ revealed that he initially lost his sight and underwent surgery to regain it. Following this, he relocated to the United States, where he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. He spent time undergoing dialysis before returning to Nigeria for a successful kidney transplant in 2022.
Reflecting on the experience, DJ Jimmy Jatt said, “After the transplant, I took time to recover and stayed quiet for a while. During my recovery, I still DJ’d in America and Europe before deciding to return to Nigeria in December.”
He emphasized that kidney disease is not always lifestyle-induced, noting that he has never smoked and stopped consuming alcohol long ago. Instead, he disclosed that his condition was a complication of diabetes.
The veteran DJ’s story sheds light on the importance of health awareness and resilience, inspiring many as he continues to thrive in his career.
