Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, has made it clear that he does not identify as an Afrobeats artiste, contrary to popular belief.

In a direct message to his followers, Wizkid stated, “Album done! See you soon, btches! And abeg if you like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and your life! If you like Afrobeats, don’t download my album. I’m not a fcking Afrobeats artiste. I am not Afro anything.”

With this statement, Wizkid seeks to distance himself from being categorized solely within the Afrobeats genre, indicating a departure from the musical style that has become synonymous with his name.

As anticipation builds for the release of his new album, Wizkid’s clarification on his genre identity adds a new layer of intrigue to his forthcoming musical endeavor.
