IO Interactive Ends Publishing Partnership with Build a Rocket Boy

IO Interactive has officially confirmed the end of its publishing partnership with Build a Rocket Boy for the upcoming title MindsEye.

The announcement follows earlier reports suggesting the collaboration was nearing its conclusion. In a recent blog update, IO Interactive stated that the partnership formally ended on March 16, 2026. Going forward, Build a Rocket Boy will assume full publishing responsibilities for MindsEye.

IO Interactive clarified that its involvement with the project has now ceased, aside from temporary transitional duties required to hand over publisher-of-record status. The company added that this transition process is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

As part of the split, a previously announced crossover featuring the Hitman franchise has also been cancelled. The collaboration, which was first revealed in June 2025 and was set to introduce a special Hitman mission into MindsEye, will no longer go ahead.

Both companies acknowledged the excitement the crossover had generated among fans and expressed appreciation for the community’s continued support. Despite the setback, Build a Rocket Boy confirmed it will continue working with other partners on future projects.

The development comes amid broader challenges for the studio. Earlier in March 2026, Build a Rocket Boy disclosed a new round of layoffs, with its leadership describing the decision as “deeply painful.”

In related developments, reports have also indicated that a planned live-action TV adaptation of the Hitman franchise is no longer moving forward.

While the end of the partnership marks a shift in direction for MindsEye, industry watchers will be closely monitoring how Build a Rocket Boy progresses with the project independently in the months ahead.
