Tolanibaj Urges Afrobeats Legends to Retire If They’ve Lost Their Sound

Reality TV star and DJ, Tolanibaj, has advised veteran Afrobeats artists to consider stepping away from music if they can no longer deliver hits that resonate with their fans.

In a video shared via her TikTok page, Tolanibaj argued that continuing to release subpar music only diminishes the strong legacies these artists have built over the years. Her comments come amid ongoing social media debates over the quality of new music from heavyweights like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.

“Why is it that Nigerian artists don’t know when to evolve or fully transition into business?” she questioned. “If your sound no longer connects with your audience, it’s time to pivot.”

She encouraged established artists to explore roles behind the scenes – highlighting figures like Olamide and Don Jazzy, who have successfully transitioned into nurturing new talents.

Tolanibaj stressed that retirement should not be seen as a failure. “There’s no shame in retiring. Stop releasing songs that dilute your brand. If your past catalogue is top-tier, it’s better to protect that reputation rather than damage it with mediocre new releases,” she said.

She added that if music is no longer the path, artists could reinvent themselves as executives or lifestyle influencers instead of risking their hard-earned respect.
