Ayra Starr Hopes Her Mother Doesn’t Hear Her Bold Lyrics on New Wizkid Collaboration

Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has admitted she is nervous about her mother hearing a particular verse from her latest track with Wizkid, Gimme Dat.

The singer stirred conversations online after the release of the song, where, in her second verse, she boldly references “surveying” a man’s private parts. The lyrics, which sample elements of Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s 2000 classic 911, explore themes of empowerment and flipping the male gaze.

“So many people wan lick my stew, so baby chill make I survey your tools… and if I handle your 2 by 2, you fit to scream, you go lose your cool,” Ayra Starr sings on the track.

While some listeners praised her confidence and lyrical creativity, others felt the verse was too explicit.

Reacting to the buzz, Ayra Starr took to her X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, confessing that she hopes her mother never hears that part of the song. “Hopefully my mom never listens to my second verse,” she posted.

Gimme Dat has quickly gained attention for its catchy beat and daring lyrics, further cementing Ayra Starr’s place among the leading voices of the new Afrobeats generation.
