Jade Osiberu Reflects on Career Journey in Emotional Letter to Her Younger Self

Acclaimed Nollywood filmmaker Jade Osiberu has opened up about her career journey in an emotional letter addressed to her 29-year-old self. The visionary behind blockbusters like Gangs of Lagos, Christmas in Lagos, and Sugar Rush reflected on the risks, fears, and triumphs that shaped her path in the Nigerian film industry.

In the heartfelt message, Osiberu recalled the bold decision to leave her corporate job a decade ago to pursue an uncertain future in Nollywood. With limited knowledge of the industry but fueled by a dream of independence, she embarked on the journey despite skepticism from friends and an overwhelming fear of failure.

At 39, Osiberu now wishes she could reassure her younger self. “Don’t be so scared, don’t be so hard on yourself,” she wrote. “Learn to celebrate your wins and don’t bury your head in shame when you think you’ve failed because you actually never did fail. Every experience is molding you.”

She also acknowledged that while uncertainties persist, they are part of the process. “The stakes will only get bigger, but you will be bigger too—in skill, in spirit, in heart—and you’ll be able to weather many storms,” she said.

Osiberu’s reflections resonate as a testament to resilience and growth, offering inspiration to others navigating their own uncertain paths. Her journey from a hesitant entrepreneur to one of Nollywood’s most prominent filmmakers serves as a powerful reminder of the rewards of courage and perseverance.
