‘Bullying Made Me Lose All Forms of Social Skills’ – Kizz Daniel

Kizz Daniel, the renowned Nigerian singer, has opened up about his struggles with socializing due to childhood bullying in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Podcast, hosted by Adesope Olajide.

The ‘Buga’ hitmaker revealed that during his formative years, he faced bullying and teasing from other children because he was chubby. The constant mockery and name-calling, particularly being referred to as “orobo” (a term for someone who is overweight), led him to retreat indoors and avoid social interactions.

He shared, “I have built a world of my own in my head since I was little. Because growing up, I was a fat kid. I was chubby. So, I don’t go out because the kids in the area make fun of me. They called me orobo and they bullied me. So I always stay indoors.”

During this period of isolation, Kizz Daniel developed an elaborate fantasy world in his imagination where he felt safe and comfortable. However, when he later lost weight and decided to reintegrate into society, he found it challenging to interact with people and lost many social skills.

To cope with his social anxiety, Kizz Daniel admitted that he occasionally turns to alcohol. His experiences with childhood bullying have left a lasting impact on his ability to communicate and connect with others.
