James Bond Writer Paul Haggis Arrested in Italy
Canadian screenwriter and movie producer, Paul Haggis has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in Italy.
According to Italian news media, the 69-year-old, best known for writing the script for James Bond movie Casino Royale and directing the Oscar-winning movie, Crash was allegedly detained on Sunday.
The Oscar-winning producer had travelled to Italy to attend a film festival scheduled to kick off in the tourist town of Ostuni, Puglia on Tuesday, June 21st 2022.
Statements from prosecutors in the nearby city of Brindisi have been released by Italian media sources including LaPresse, which state how they investigations are ongoing over allegations from a ‘young foreign woman’ who claims she was forced to have ‘non-consensual’ sexual relations over a 2-day period.
According to prosecutors Antonio Negro and Livia Orlando, who are leading the investigation, the woman was also reportedly ‘forced to see medical care.’
So far, police have been unable to provide information about the case or Haggis’ current whereabouts.
