JD Power Quality Survey: Alfa Romeo Takes Top Spot

Alfa Romeo’s surprising top-ranking in JD Power’s Initial Quality report, released last week, challenges its reputation for excitement over trouble-free ownership, indicating a larger turnaround among multiple auto brands, including all Stellantis brands, thanks to effective processes implemented by the parent company.

This breakthrough urges car shoppers to reconsider overlooked brands, as Stellantis’ Dodge and Ram secured top positions, and Alfa Romeo made a remarkable leap to third place in terms of problems per 100 vehicles.

Although not all Stellantis brands achieved high rankings, with Chrysler showing improvement but still trailing near the bottom, these advancements signify a shift in quality expectations where customers seek more than mere absence of major failures in their vehicles.

Alfa Romeo notably excelled in addressing evident issues, securing the best industry ranking for resolving broken components.

Stellantis achieved these quality improvements by leveraging the best practices of the merged companies, swiftly identifying and resolving problems, while Alfa Romeo streamlined quality control at the factory level by reducing the number of product versions and options.

It is worth noting that different analysts employ diverse quality evaluation methods, implying that while Alfa Romeo’s progress carries significance in the JD Power survey, substantial changes in scores from other evaluators like Consumer Reports will require more time to manifest.
