Johnny Depp is Not in Talks With Disney to Reprise Captain Jack Sparrow Role

Despite a widespread call by fans to see Johnny Depp reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, a spokesperson for the actor has denied rumours that the actor was holding talks with Disney to reprise the role.

According to Fox News Digital, the 59-year-old actor was on the verge of signing a $301 million deal with Disney to appear in his sixth pirate film.

The rumor, which was set off by Australian gossip site Poptopic, spread as fast as a wild fire online until Depp’s team stepped up to set the records straight.

It should be recalled that Depp had previously stated that he feels betrayed by disney. During his high-profile defamation trial against Amber Heard, Depp’s legal team had argued that Disney dropped Depp from the pirates franchise following his ex-wife’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she describes herself as a domestic abuse victim.

Johnny Depp Feels Betrayed by Disney

During the trial, Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn had confronted Depp during cross-examination with a statement the actor had made to the press.

“If Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film, correct?” Rottenborn had asked Depp.

To this, Depp had replied, “That is true.” Much later, Depp had told his lawyer Camille Vasquez during questioning that he felt betrayed by Disney, saying the company spurned him.
