Johnny Depp Returns to the Small Screen as a Pirate, But Not Acting as Jack Sparrow
American actor, Depp has appeared in a video game commercial.
The 58-year-old actor is in a new commercial for “Sea of Dawn,” a free-to-play pirate MMORPG developed by Changyou.
According to the site levelup.com, the video game was released in 2007 and has a base of up to 300 million users.
In the commercial, Johnny appears as an eccentric Irish pirate named Phillip Artoosh.
Depp wears a common pirate outfit to fit into his character. As we see, Phillip Artoosh seems older than Jack Sparrow.
Artoosh has white eyes, and uses a cane to walk, featuring the characteristics of an older man.
During the ad, we see how Phillip is at home, resting when he suddenly receives a visit from a bill collector.
Phillip Artoosh tells him several stories from his past with Depp’s characteristic humor.
“If there’s an opportunity for humor, I’m going to take it. I want to see a character who has the chutzpah to do things I would never do,” said Depp in a behind-the-scenes look at the commercial.
