Kanye West Seeks $53M Exit from Malibu Mansion Due to ‘Irritating’ Wall Colour

Kanye West is reportedly looking to part ways with his $53 million Malibu mansion, and the reason behind the decision is quite unique—apparently, the walls don’t meet the rapper’s colour standards.

According to a source close to the controversial artist, as reported by The Daily Mail on Sunday (December 31), Kanye West is not satisfied with the wall colours in the mansion. The insider revealed that Kanye has a preference for earth tones and muddy colours, avoiding anything too cold or visually draining. The source claimed that architects and designers working for Kanye have gone as far as collecting soil samples from various locations, including the UK and France, to use as colour references for his iconic looks.

Unfortunately, the concrete walls of the Malibu mansion settled into a cadet gray, and Kanye was hoping for a warmer tone, such as dovetail gray or coachman’s cape. The source mentioned that Kanye would only visit the house at sunrise and sunset when the colour didn’t irritate him as much. Eventually, he stopped visiting the property altogether.

Kanye West initially purchased the beachfront property in 2021 for close to $58 million. The home was designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, one of Kanye’s favourite designers. The mansion, built in 2013, boasts a concrete-heavy architecture with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Last month, Kanye put the gutted-out mansion on the market for $53 million.

The listing agent for the property, Jason Oppenheimer, star of Netflix’s Selling Sunset, highlighted the property’s “blank canvas” potential and deemed it a “unique opportunity” for the right buyer. The original finishes of the home were described as “dated,” but Oppenheimer did not provide insight into why Kanye was selling the property.

Experts suggest that the buyer would need to invest a substantial amount to make the concrete structure livable again, as it currently lacks windows and electricity.

In September, Kanye West faced a lawsuit from the former project manager of the home, Tony Saxon. Saxon alleged that he was fired for refusing to comply with Kanye’s unusual demands, including removing all windows and electricity. The lawsuit cited violations of labour codes, dangerous working conditions, unpaid wages, and wrongful retaliatory termination.

Kanye’s vision for the property, according to Saxon, involved transforming it into a “bomb shelter from the 1910s” by removing custom marble bathrooms, custom windows, plumbing, and electricity, and replacing stairs with slides. Saxon claimed Kanye expressed a desire not to be a “slave” to modern conveniences and wanted to avoid being “accessible” to the government.
