Killer Mike Detained at Grammys After Winning Three Awards

Shortly after securing three Grammy awards, American rapper Killer Mike, also known as Michael Render, faced an unexpected turn of events as he was detained due to an altercation inside the Crypto.com Arena, where the prestigious awards ceremony took place.

Los Angeles police spokesperson Mike Lopez confirmed the incident, stating that Killer Mike, 48, was booked on a misdemeanour charge. The altercation, which led to his detention, occurred after the rapper’s noteworthy Grammy victories.

Video footage from the scene depicted Killer Mike being escorted from the venue in handcuffs by police officers. The incident unfolded just after the rapper and political activist clinched three Grammy awards, marking his first wins in two decades.

His song “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, earned him awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Additionally, Killer Mike secured a third Grammy for Best Rap Album with his release titled “Michael.”

During his acceptance speech, the rapper addressed those who believe they are too old for rap, asserting, “This is for all the people who think you’re too old to rap… we keep hip-hop alive. Never ever stop doing what you do.”

Eyewitnesses in the arena reported hearing chants of “free Mike” as the rapper was led away by law enforcement. Killer Mike, known for his vocal stance on issues affecting black Americans, including police brutality and racism, was later released and is set to appear in court later this month.

While the incident marred Killer Mike’s celebratory night, the Grammy Awards were largely dominated by Taylor Swift, who made history with her fourth win for Best Album.
