Kunle Afolayan and Brother Aremu Reconcile at Mother’s Burial After Years of Feud
Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has reconciled with his younger brother, Aremu Afolayan, bringing an end to a long-standing family feud during their mother’s wake-keep ceremony in Oyo State on Friday, November 22, 2024.
The Afolayan brothers, both sons of the late Nollywood icon Ade Love, had been publicly estranged since 2018. Their feud came to light after Aremu alleged in an interview that their famous father lived in poverty despite his legendary status in the Nigerian film industry. Kunle responded by labelling Aremu’s remarks as “stupid,” further straining their relationship.
However, at the emotional wake-keep ceremony, the brothers set aside their differences to honour their late mother’s legacy. Addressing those gathered, Kunle remarked on his protective role over Aremu, stating, “I am not Aremu’s brother but his father. I trained him and I’m 10 years older than him. But love conquers all.”
In a heartfelt response, Aremu apologised for his actions and acknowledged their mother’s influence in bringing them back together. “My greatest joy today is that my mother made us talk. She never stopped praying for me, even when I was seen as the black sheep of the family,” he said. Aremu also expressed regret for subjecting Kunle to public criticism, adding, “I’m sorry for putting brother Kunle through the Instagram backlash. It’s because I love you.”
The reconciliation drew applause from family, friends, and well-wishers who attended the ceremony, marking a poignant moment of healing and unity in the Afolayan family.
