I Did Menial Jobs, Performed for N5,000 to Feed my Family – Shallipopi

Nigerian music sensation Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has opened up about his humble beginnings and the challenges he faced before achieving stardom.

The “Elon Musk Boys” hitmaker revealed that he took on various menial jobs and performed at clubs for as little as ₦5,000 to help support his family, particularly his mother. Shallipopi shared these reflections on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, responding to critics after his recent statement that money is essential for manhood stirred debate online.

He wrote, “I’ve been to all 36 states in Nigeria, touring towns just to survive. I’ve done bricklaying, painting, POP plastering, and workshop jobs. At night, I’d sneak out to clubs like Jokers in Benin to freestyle for ₦5,000, just to bring something home for my mum.”

The artist’s post highlighted the resilience and determination that defined his early years, as he sought to overcome financial hardship and support his family in a challenging economic environment.

Encouraging others to persevere, Shallipopi added, “This country doesn’t smile at anyone, so buckle up. There’s no shame in doing what it takes to survive. Period!”

Fans and supporters have since praised the singer’s honesty, commending his journey from struggle to success as an inspiration for many grappling with similar challenges.
