Social Media Has Destroyed our Sense of Reality – Denzel Washington

Iconic actor Denzel Washington has expressed concern over the influence of social media on today’s society, calling it a tool that has distorted reality and complicated life for the younger generation.

In a recent podcast interview with actor Paul Mescal, Washington shared his perspective on the challenges faced by the current generation, contrasting it with his own era. He lamented the overwhelming nature of social media, citing its tendency to amplify opinions and create undue pressure.

“I pray for your generation because we didn’t have to deal with what you’re dealing with now. It’s our fault for putting it in your hands,” Washington remarked.

The award-winning actor pointed out the toxic cycle of public perception on platforms, saying, “There weren’t millions of opinions bombarding us every moment of the day. One day people like you, the next they hate you, and you don’t even know why.”

Washington further revealed that he has deliberately avoided social media, stating, “I’ve never had an Instagram account or LinkedIn. Social media is not something I want to be part of because it distorts reality.”

His comments have sparked discussions about the pervasive impact of social media on mental health and the complexities it introduces to personal and public life, especially for younger generations navigating an increasingly digital world.
