Lil Wayne’s Son Names Playboi Carti as the ‘New Lil Wayne’
Lil Wayne is revered as one of the greatest rappers of all time, and now his son, Lil Novi (real name Neal Carter), has sparked discussions by naming another artist he believes embodies his father’s legacy.
In a recent interview with Flophouse Atlanta, Lil Novi, the son of Lil Wayne and singer Nivea, was asked to name the greatest rapper of all time. His response was unexpected: “I mean, obviously my dad. But for me, I would say [Playboi] Carti is Dwayne now. So yeah, Carti. If you really think, he’s there. He’s reached that level. He’s done crazy numbers.”
Following in his father’s footsteps, Lil Novi is also pursuing a music career, though his early efforts have received mixed reactions. In March, the 14-year-old shared a snippet of a new song on Instagram Live, showcasing distorted high-pitched vocals over a bass-heavy, video game-inspired beat. The lyrics, although difficult to decipher, include references to drug use and sex.
The clip quickly circulated online, drawing a variety of responses from fans. Some critics were harsh, with comments like, “Bro didn’t get the right genes,” and “How is your dad one of the best rappers alive and you do this.” However, others were more supportive, predicting potential success in the future: “He gonna drop a banger in 10 years probably,” and “Nah this better than Ken [Carson] its actually tuff.”
Lil Novi was born in November 2009 during Lil Wayne’s intermittent relationship with Nivea. The couple was engaged in the early 2000s, reunited to have their child, but ultimately separated in 2010. Lil Wayne has three other children from different relationships: Reginae, 25; Dwayne Carter III, 15; and Kameron, 14.
The interview and Lil Novi’s comments have not only sparked debates about the next generation of rap talent but also highlighted the pressures and expectations that come with being the offspring of a music legend.
